About Artist Nicole Vieracker
— from feeling lost in our modern, fast world to living a slow, serene and creative island life in Sardinia
Hi, I am Nicole Vieracker. I was born 1999 in Bavaria, Germany, where I grew up in a small village in the Bavarian country side. It was my Mum, an artist and writer herself, who introduced me to watercolours at the age of 7 when we were on a family vacation in Portugal. I was in love immediately. From then on, my Mum taught me everything she knew about watercolours and other painting techniques. She introduced me to acrylics, bought me my first own professional watercolour and acrylic paints and many books on art history and techniques. Nurtured by her, I continued to practice and study painting techniques through books and art magazines and took every art class available at my school throughout my teenage years. I never seriously thought of pursuing that passion professionally though.
Pushed by the desire to find out what really matters in life, I did not go on to study at university after high school but decided to travel solo to North America. Two years of wild adventures, during which I focused more on my other passions, writing and photography, followed. It wasn’t until I stranded on the beautiful Mediterranean island Sardinia during the pandemic, that I first reconnected with my passion for painting. Inspired by my travels and my life here in Sardinia, I started to paint, mainly watercolour landscapes.
Sardinia was never meant to be a permanent thing. But I fell in love with my partner who is Sardinian and together, we decided to put down roots and start a family on the island. I never imagined that this slow Mediterranean island life could become my thing, had I lived such a fast paced life before and big career aspirations — but to my surprise, I was happier and more serene than ever before in my life.
It sounds almost dumb to say it, but my beforehand so restless soul had finally found a home.
I was so content caring for my family, painting whenever I had time and learning from the Sardinian culture what a good and serene life meant. Sardinia is one of the few blue zones in the world (where a lot of people live to 100 years and longer) so people here must know how to live well.
Of course, moving to Sardinia did not get rid off all my fears and problems automatically. I struggled a lot with the change of lifestyle pace and the cultural differences — but that struggle allowed me to learn and realise so many things that now allow me to live a mostly serene and happy life.
Like you might have already understood — life hasn’t always been that serene for me. Though from the outside it seemed like I had everything, a happy childhood, friends, family, all my travels and adventures, etc., I struggled a lot mentally, questioning the purpose of life and how I could make sure I wasn’t wasting my life. Which is why it is so important to me to not only share my beautiful art with you but also the life lessons and wisdom behind it. The over all question that drives my work is: How can we live our best life? And can art help with that?
That’s what I explore in my artworks and my lifestyle blog. I hope my work inspires and helps you in some way to live a good, authentic and serene life yourself and brings lot’s of joy, beauty and calm into your life!
