My grandmother was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer when I was about 13 years old. My entire world fell apart. My grandmother used to live such a healthy life. I questioned the world, the idea of fairness, even God. But ultimately, the only answer I ever found was: Life is short. We have to make sure we really live it.
That realisation sent me into a wild rat race as soon as I finished high school: I wanted to live as many bucket list life moments as possible. I travelled parts of the world solo, went rock climbing in the Canadian Rockies, skinny dipped in Glacier lakes, laid under the Milky Way in New Zealand, watched the sunrise over Mesa Arch, flew with a helicopter above the Grand Canyon,… So many amazing memories — but the stress and the fear of missing out on my life never really went away. I just kept running and running from one experience to the other without ever slowing down to actually enjoy and really appreciate everything I was experiencing.
It wasn’t until I got stranded on the beautiful island of Sardinia, one of the few blue zones (zones with a lot of people that live to 100 years) in the world, that I slowed down and learned how to truly live my life.
The answers were to my surprise so much simpler and SLOWER than what I used to believe and completely changed me and my life.
My artwork, blog and social media are all about sharing that wisdom with you — the over all question is: How can we live better and more serene? And how can art help with that?
